WHY
Modern life seems increasingly saturated with screens, words and objects, leaving ever less space for the mind to find tranquillity.
SACHIYO KANEKO's work was born from a desire to create within such daily existence moments of quietude that allow one's breath to deepen, and small pauses to return to oneself.
WHAT
Clouds and moon, cherry blossoms and maple, sea and garden, shifting light, the words of haiku...
Each is an elusive presence, changing form and expression in an instant.
SACHIYO KANEKO gently captures these fleeting natural sensations, the emotions that flit through the mind, and fleeting scenes through the expansive lines and colours of SHO. Rather than depicting reality directly, she seeks to carve out a world where memories and sensations within the viewer quietly surface through the motif.
SHO
The art known as Shodo is referred to as Sho.
While often translated into English as Japanese calligraphy, Shodo is not merely decorative lettering.
It transcends the mere technique of writing characters beautifully; it is an expression where breath, rhythm, and the instantaneous resolve of the moment are captured directly within a single stroke.
It encompasses the speed and pauses of the brush, the gradations of ink density, and even the surrounding blank space. It is a uniquely Eastern art form that captures the unseen aura and the movements of the heart.
HOW
Calligraphy is, of course, a one-off expression; nothing identical will ever be created again.
The prints are faithful reproductions of the calligraphy using photopolymer printing technology, yet the final result varies depending on the machine's pressure, speed, and the condition of the paper. Colouring is applied by hand, one sheet at a time. Even though they are prints, each possesses the value of a unique piece.
Sanctuary/IBASHO
SACHIYO KANEKO's particular dedication lies in writing with ground ink upon handmade paper.
When using Japanese painting materials, she employs NIKAWA, animal glue.
All traditional materials are natural.
This dedication stems from a desire for people to feel a warmth as if surrounded by nature, even within the city.
SACHIYO KANEKO's works were born not merely to adorn walls, but with the wish that they become a “place of being” where the viewer's heart and nature find gentle repose. When facing the work, may a little distance be created from the busyness, breathing steady, and awareness quietly return to one's inner self—may it become the catalyst for such mindful moments.
ZEN Interior
By your desk as you head to work, in the living room where you spend time with books and music, in the bedroom where you dim the lights at day's end, in the entrance hall where you welcome someone home.
These pieces born from SHO are art that accompanies the spaces of those who cherish tranquillity and breathing room, even amidst lives filled with possessions and information. Even without creating a room curated by ZEN Interior, and certainly within the carefully curated ZEN Interior spaces, SACHIYO KANEKO's SHO will remind you of those quiet moments for self-reflection.
VOICE
Ms. A.S (Spain)
Beautiful!
It's stunning on its own, but paired with the mat, I was amazed at how beautiful it looked. It's a shame the photograph doesn't quite capture it. I've displayed it in my daughter's room (10 months old).
Mr. C.N (Japan)
I received this as a retirement gift. It's my first time displaying SHO, but it's rather calming, isn't it?
Mr. A.Fさん(Spain)
I have viewed your website. Learning about the origins of Chinese and Japanese characters as “the voice of the gods” and their history as a means of expressing love between men and women was truly fascinating. Japanese culture is captivating and utterly enchanting.
And now, a small, beautiful piece of your work adorns the wall of my study. How delightful!
KOBE University (Japan)
Thank you for bringing such life to the hall where students gather happily every day.
Ms. M.R (Sweden)
Beautiful! It's very Japanese, yet it complements my interior perfectly.
Japanese soba restaurant (Japan)
Thank you for creating this piece specifically for our shop. It fits perfectly in this spot, the very first place customers see upon entering.

ARTIST
SACHIYO KANEKO
‘Poet of Magical Ink’.
Digging oriental traditional art for a long time and watching around the world widely. These two aspects in different vectors give her art an original taste, view, perspective of the world.
For her the creation of art is meditation. Her completed work is the reflections of her mind, in other words subconsciousness, which is totally free from ego.
